Destination Wedding in Santa Barbara

Last month, I had the amazing opportunity to travel to California for a destination wedding and let me tell you...I'm in love. The couple...the resort...the beautiful weather....it was a recipe for a perfect week in paradise!

The Location: Bacara Resort and Spa is a Spanish-style luxury resort located near Santa Barbara, California. Built in 2000, the Bacara Resort & Spa cost $222 million to develop, and offers 311 guest rooms and 49 premium suites, all of which have balconies or private patios—some of which can rent for as much as $10,000 a night. It has served as the wedding location for celebs such as Fergie and Josh Duhamal, Jennie Garth and Peter Facinelli and Charlie Sheen's daughter.

The Couple: Mark and Alda

I thought you might like to know more about this lovely bride and groom so I asked Alda a few questions about how she and Mark got started!

"How we met:

Mark and I met when Mark started working at Monsanto about 5 years ago. I remember our first conversation being about traffic patterns. I had done some modeling of traffic patterns in college and Mark had just finished working for the City Council in Australia where we worked on setting up the brains behind the traffic system for the city of Brisbane. After that conversation I saw Mark at work in the hallways and little did we now how much more we had in common. We eventually started working on the same team, traveling on work trips and became the best of friends. Since Mark had to go back to visit his family in Australia and I had a friend out there that I always wanted to visit we traveled to Australia together where we spent more quality time together and that's when I realized that we cared an awful lot about each other. Shortly after that we started dating.

How Mark proposed:

We had been dating for a year and a half at this point and Mark decided he wanted to do something special leading up to our one and a half year anniversary. So a few days before, he started giving me presents...one a day.

Day 1: He got me a beautiful arrangement of Edible Arrangements - I love fruit so I went through that pretty quickly.

Day 2: He took me out to dinner and a movie at one of those 5-star lounges.

Day 3: He gave me a smart thermometer - it's an extension of your phone that can measure your temperature and keep track of trends and patterns in an app on your phone.

Day 4: He had a smart lock - this is amazing from an app on your phone you can lock and unlock your house automatically as you approach your door so you don't need keys anymore and you can give access to friends, relatives or other people that come to your hours like dog walkers etc for only certain times a day or for only certain days a week - it's amazing, changed our lives.

Day 5: He gave me a 5-minute journal - this is a life changer too but in a different way, in the morning you write 3 things you are grateful for, 3 things that will make your day great and 1 affirmation and then at night right before bed you write 3 amazing things that happened that day and 1 thing you would change - literally 5 minutes but it changes the way you look at the world.

With all of these things, you would think I had a hint of what was coming but Mark is a really sweet and thoughtful guy and I thought this was just part of the anniversary so I never saw what was coming on day 6.

So on Day 6: First thing in the morning Mark wakes up bright and early and puts on a suite. I'm not a morning person so I don't notice any of this when Mark comes to wake me up and wishes me Happy Anniversary. He hands me this card that explains the meaning behind all of the presents that he had been giving me: smart thermometer represented how he would always be there to make sure I was healthy, the smart lock represented his promise to keep me safe and sound, the 5min journal represented how we would help each other grow and improved our lives together and so on. Mark is down in one knee at this point trying to pull out the ring from he had hidden it and as I am reading the card, I look over and say "Mark, what are you doing?" and then "Mark, why are you wearing a suite!?" That's when Mark completely surprised me and pulled out the last present meant to represent his forever lasting love and asked me to marry him. I said yes and that's when we started the next chapter in our lives as an engaged couple.

Why we chose a destination wedding:

Being that our families and friends were literally all over the world, we had the hardest time deciding where we would have our wedding. We both love to travel, it's one of our favorite things so we knew we wanted to go somewhere fun for our big celebration. The most important thing to us was to create a relaxing atmosphere for our families to meet and get to know each other so we decided on California as an in between place for our families to travel to. We picked Bacara because it had so much to offer - great hospitality, great atmosphere, great weather and it was very much our style. We picked everything remotely and we were so thrilled with our choices. Loved every minute of it! "

I can't wait for my next chance to travel for a destination wedding! Have camera, will travel!

New Website, New to Blogging!

Hey guys! So after literally YEARS of friends and other like-minded professionals telling me that I need to start blogging if I want to continue a successful growing business.....here we are. My brother is the writer in the family so this shall be interesting but truly I can't wait to start a new pathway for communication with friends, clients and strangers alike!

This actually starts at a great time (more interesting than usual for you) because next week I am heading out to Santa Barbara, California to photograph a wedding and I CAN NOT WAIT.
